Do I need to pay to do a Live Project via OysterConnect.com ?

Yes. You need to pay to get a Certificate on completing a Live Project via OysterConnect.com. However you can register for free and apply to Projects which are free (meaning ones which are not labeled Members Only, Exclusive or C-Suite). You can work on these projects and complete them. You will not be awarded any KSA Rating or Mentor Recommendation or Certificate in your Free account and will need to move to a paid membership in order to get the certificate on Project Completion.

How are  Live Project on OysterConnect.com different from Internships?

  1. They are Virtual - Live Projects are virtual while an internship mostly requires face to face engagement
  2. They are Round the year - Live Projects can be done all round the year while internships are done during specific months only
  3. They can be carried out Along With studies - Live Projects can be done along with your studies while for internships you need to wait for a semester break

Can I do a Live Project along with my classes?

Yes, Live Projects on OysterConnect.com are designed in such a way that you can work on these along with your classes. They require only 10 hours of your time every week, with most projects requiring limited engagement with the Mentor as most projects are virtual in nature. However, there may be a requirement to visit the field for project work. You should ensure that you can allocate time to do that before applying for such projects.

Do I need to visit the location of the company which is offering the Live Project?

Less than 1% of Live Projects posted on OysterConnect.com require you to visit the office of the Company or require you to be posted in the same city as that of the Project. Do check if projects have a location constraint before applying. You figure that out by looking at the icons displayed next to the project and also by checking the Location field in the Live Project Details page.

Will I get a Certificate on completing the Live Project? 

Yes, you will get a certificate* if you complete the Live Project satisfactorily and on time. However, if the project does not meet the mentor’s expectations, then he/she may choose to not award you the certificate.

* Certificate will be released to only those who switch to a paid membership.

Will the Certificate be from the company to which the Mentor belongs or from OysterConnect.com?

90% of our Projects are floated by Companies, hence the Certificate will be from the company to which the Mentor belongs. However, MYOP (Make Your Own Projects) are managed by Mentors in their individual capacity. In this case, the certificate will be from OysterConnect.com. Please read the Company Background Field on the Live Project details page to know this aspect.

What is the procedure to apply for Live Projects? The procedure to apply for Live Projects is as follows:

  1. After you have activated your account, login and browse through all the open Live Projects on OysterConnect.com
  2. Create an account on OysterConnect.com
  3. Click on the Apply button for the Live Projects you are interested in
  4. When you apply for the first time, you will be asked to take a one-time 1 Click Apply Assessment Quiz. Your future selections are based on your score in this assessment.
  5. Once you apply you will get a message stating the date by which the project results will be announced.
  6. If you are selected, you will receive an email informing you about the same.
  7. Even if you are not selected you will receive an email informing the selection results.

Can I work on a project which is not based out of my city?

Yes. Most of the projects are virtual in nature and hence won’t have a location constraint. However, few projects may require you to visit company office or other places. Please read the project description thoroughly to ensure you apply to the right project.

You will receive an application confirmation email once you apply for a Live Project. This email will also have the 1-Click Apply Assessment link. This is a one-time* effort and you won’t be prompted to take it again. * Subject to you scoring more than 60% in the 1-Click Apply Assessment

What is 1-Click Apply?

Once you have taken and scored more than 60% in the 1-Click Apply Assessment, it takes just 1-click to apply for any project. You don’t need to take any further assessment and you can apply for the projects on the go.

How many projects can I work on simultaneously?

It is not recommended to work on multiple projects simultaneously because the quality of output will get compromised. However, you can work on a maximum of 2 Live Projects parallely. You are advised to apply to more Live Projects once you have completed the current ones because you won’t be given preference in the selection process if you are currently working on 2 Live Projects.

No. It varies project to project and is highly influenced by the total number of students who apply for a particular project and the average 1-Click Apply score that they get. However, students who score less than 60% in the 1-Click Apply Assessment have a limited chance of succeeding in the selection process.

If your score is less than 60% then you will be prompted to improve it once you apply for a Live Project. Alternatively, you can also improve your score by using the link in your profile page at OysterConnect.com.

What is a good score to be assure of my selection in my favorite project?

Even 100% score does not guarantee your selection for a particular project but it definitely increases your chances of selection. In most cases anything above 70% is a decent score, however if you want to apply for projects from popular companies or in niche areas, then we recommend you to improve your score to 85%+.

Is there an upper-limit on the number of times I can improve my score?

 Yes. You can improve your score up to 5 times and hence you are advised to use your chances judiciously.

Live Project Selection

How do I find out if I have been selected for a Live Project?
Live Project results are shared via an email to everyone who applied within 2 working days of the application deadline. Alternatively, you can view the selected students list on the Live Project’s details page on OysterConnect.com.

Is there any standard cut-off for all the Live Projects?
No. It varies project to project and is highly influenced by the total number of students who apply for a particular project and the average 1-Click Apply score that they get. However, students who score less than 60% in the 1-Click Apply Assessment have a limited chance of succeeding in the selection process.
  
What is the Selection Criteria to qualify for a Live Project at OysterConnect.com?
Our selection process is extremely comprehensive and looks at multiple parameters such as your 1-Click Apply Score, Writing Score, Live Project History, KSA Rating & Mentor Recommendations. We may consider some other parameters too such as Educational Background, Specialization, Expertise in a particular area etc if a mentor demands it.

I have received an email stating I have been selected for a project, does this mean I have made through the next round or am I actually in?
 In more than 90% of scenarios, selection mail means you have been selected for that particular project, however in few scenarios the mentor might want to conduct further assessment with the shortlisted students. 

Does OysterConnect.com play any role in the selection process?
Yes. OysterConnect.com manages the selection process and sends out a list of suggested students to Mentors. From there on Mentors may decide to conduct further shortlisting, however in more than 90% of scenarios they go ahead with the given list of students only.

Live Project Execution

I had to drop out of the Live Project due to personal reasons. What do I do?

Please mark yourself as “Not working on this project anymore” on the “Live Project History” section of your profile.  Also, write to the concerned mentor immediately, stating the reason for the same. It is the professional thing to do.

Does dropping out of a Live Project impact my future prospects of getting a Live Project?

Yes. It does have a negative impact on your future prospects of getting a Live Project. We strongly discourage you from doing that. You must remember your Guarantee Quota is inclusive of the projects that you drop out from.

Yes. In cases where the project has been canceled by the mentor, all the students who applied to that particular project will get their credits back.

I have completed my project, how do I get mentor recommendation for my work?

Please mark yourself as “Completed Pending Approval” on the “Live Project History” section of your profile. This will initiate an email to the mentor asking him to confirm your completion and also prompt him to write a recommendation for you on OysterConnect.com.

My mentor is not responding. What do I do?

You should do the following  -

  1. You should write at least two reminder emails to the mentor stating your specific query or action plan. A generic or open ended question like “ What should I do is not advisable”  
  2. You should then call him/her. Please adhere to the following courtesies.  
    1. Please call before 7pm.  
    2. If you are unable to get through please donot call repeatedly. Try calling the next day.  
    3. Leave an SMS if you wish to - which should be in proper language and not in SMS language.

When should I start my project?

You should start the moment you receive your selection mail. Please start working on the project based on the detailed steps provided in the project. The Mentor's role is to guide you if you have any doubts. If you have any specific questions regarding the project then please do write it in the group email ID otherwise please start executing. All Live Projects are expected to be handled in an independent manner by students of your calibre. The OysterConnect.com team spends time in putting together all the steps to ensure that there is complete clarity about the project steps helping the students to get started right after their selection.

Please write an email to the mentor stating your understanding and action plan to achieve the project deliverables. This way it will be easier for the mentor to give you a lot more accurate feedback.

Please read project steps and do a research on the subject. Post that, please write an email to the mentor stating your understanding and action plan to achieve the project deliverables. This way it will be easier for the mentor to give you a lot more accurate feedback.

Wait for at least 7 days of changing the Status. Post that please send him/her at least 2 Reminders within a space of 2 days.

Yes but prior to that make sure you inform the mentor about this. Also make sure your friend is registered on Oysterconnect.com and has taken the 1-Click Apply Assessment. Write to us at projectcoach@oysterconnect.com with your friend’s profile link and the project link, we will attach him/her after comparing his 1-Click apply assessment score with other students who had applied for the same.

Please mark yourself as “Completed Pending Approval” on the “Live Project History” section of your profile. This will initiate an email to the mentor asking him to confirm your completion. Once that is done, you will instantaneously get your Certificate delivered into your inbox. So it is vital to follow up with the mentor regularly so that you get the certificate quickly.

What are some questions that I should avoid asking a Mentor ?

You should NOT make the following requests.

  1. Request for a Live Project directly
  2. Request for a Job Interview
  3. Request for any personal favours for self or on behalf of others


Is there any upper limit on the number of questions that I can ask from a particular mentor?

Once you ask a question to a particular mentor, you can continue your conversation with the mentor by replying to the email with the mentor’s answer. You don’t need to ask a new question from the same mentor. However, we recommend that if you have more than 1 question, you request for a telephonic conversation with the mentor to address all your questions at one go.

How do I know whether a mentor is open to having a telephonic interaction?
All mentors who are available to talk with students have a button with  (telephone) icon attached to their profile.

How do I initiate a telephonic conversation with the mentor of my choice?
After selecting the mentor of your choice, you can click on the  button to request a telephonic conversation. You will be shown a text box where you can enter your concerns that you would like to address in your telephonic interaction. Please make sure that your concerns are detailed enough for the mentor to understand. 

Do I need to attach my profile along with my request?

Will I get to talk to the mentor of my choice?
You will ALWAYS get to talk to an Industry Mentor. However, it is possible that you get to talk to a different Industry Mentor from the one you chose. This may be done because you may not have addressed the right mentor or the same is not available.

Live Project 


What is a Live Project? 

A Live project is a specific set of tasks that an Industry Mentor assigns to students to carry out over a 1-4 weeks period. These projects are carried out by students on a virtual basis (meaning limited offline interaction with the Industry Mentor). The Industry Mentor will be required to provide a Certificate/ Letter of recommendation on the Company letterhead to each student who successfully completes the assigned tasks.

What will be my responsibilities while carrying out a Live Project? 

You will be expected to do the following - 

  • To provide the required documents or database to the students in order to carry out a Live Project. 
  • To provide guidance to the students on how to proceed on their Live Project. 
  • To respond to student queries (email & phone) during the course of the Live Project. 
  • To provide the necessary feedback to the students during the course of the Live Project. 
  • To stick to the Project timelines as much as possible. 
  • To provide a certificate / letter of recommendation to the students on successfully completing the project. 
  • To inform the students in case of Project cancellation.

In order to ensure efficiency, we strongly recommend you to run only one Live Project at a time. However, if you want multiple projects to be completed simultaneously then we suggest that you assign it to another Mentor / colleague.

Do I need my company’s permission in order to post a Live Project? 

We don’t need a formal letter of approval from your company. We recommend that you get an approval from your HR before you post the project. This is to ensure that there are no obstacles at the time of releasing the Letter of Recommendation on your Company Letterhead to students who successfully complete the project.

We recommend you to start your project within a week of having received the list of selected students. Students have access to new projects every day and a delay from your end might result in a loss of interest from them and you will face a very high risk of losing these students, however if you still want to delay the project start, please write on the group mailing thread informing the students about the new start date of the project.

I have seen that a Project Coach has been attached to my project on OysterConnect.com. I have also received an email from someone at OysterConnect.com introducing herself/himself as the Project Coach? What does that mean?

 a. OysterConnect.com attaches a Project Coach to each project in order to ensure smooth execution. A Project Coach will be responsible for the following actions -

 b. To ensure that the project starts off as soon as possible.   ​

 c. To coordinate with the Mentor to get the project tasks posted on this thread right away​. ​

 d. To ensure clear deliverables and timeline are also posted by the Mentor​.

 e. To ensure all students commit that they will carry out the tasks ​within the specific timeline.

 f. To ensure the student team lead is aware of his responsibilities.

 g. ​To act as a bridge to solve any issues that might come up during project execution. However, ​Project Coach will act on this only if students / mentor draw his/her attention ​ so please write to Project Coach on the thread and he/she will ensure that it is sorted out.

 Please write an email to us at info@oysterconnect.com and we will send you a list of recommended students. However you must request for the same within a week of getting the first list, otherwise it is recommended that you refloat the project.

Due to potential confidentiality of documents shared between you and the students, we do not allow attachments to be shared via OysterConnect.com. Hence, we suggest you to share it with students by writing to them directly on their email IDs.
